Hydroponic growing / Moving from Soil to Hydro.
helmikuu 01, 2012, 17:11:22 ip
Hi. Due to a rushed start to the season, I ended up sowing my seeds in soil, despite the fact that I need to move them to an ebb and flood in expanded clay pebbles. So now I need to transplant seedlings from soil to pebbles. I was thinking of doing this in 2 steps.

1. Move from soil to 3 inch rockwool cubes with their holes filled with a coco/perlite mixture (I thought this might reduce the transplant shock as coco/perlite mixture would be structurally more like soil.)
2. When roots grow through coco/perlite/rockwool transplant rockwool cube to expanded clay in ebb.

Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks

Hydroponic growing / Electrical Equipment
joulukuu 12, 2011, 17:34:10 ip
Hi there.

I'm just wondering what sort of equipment people use for hydroponics in their greenhouses. I am looking to electrify my greenhouse, and with the possiblity of hydroponic growing in mind, I was wondering what type of electronic timers people use. Do they have to be weather/damp proofed?

Are they something like this:http://www.diy.com/nav/fix/electrical/switches-sockets/outdoor-switches-sockets/mk_masterseal/MK-Masterseal-Single-Socket-With-Electronic-Timer-1Gang-Grey-13-Amp-9415229

Or can something cheaper be used?

Thanks

marraskuu 28, 2011, 16:07:33 ip
Hi there.
I'm just wondering if anyone has experience of making bonchi with capsicum annums. If so what varieties? I am trying my hand at Cayenne and Cheyenne. Am I wasting my time?

Thanks

Traditional growing / Best Varieties for Outdoors
marraskuu 18, 2011, 16:02:48 ip
Hi there. I need some advice as I prepare for next year's season. I have now due to my addiction accumulated seeds for 17 varieties of chili pepper

They are:
Aji Omnicolor
Aji Limon
Rocoto Yellow
Chenzo
Cheyenne
Cayenne
Red Scotch Bonnet
Fatalii
Jalapeno
Tabasco
Inferno
Thai Dragon
Padron
Frigitello
"Meek and Mild" Poblano
Dorset Naga
Tepin

Unfortunately I have only a small greenhouse of 8x6 foot. Does anyone have any advice as to which varieties from those above would grow better outdoors? I live on the West Coast of Ireland. Summer rarely gets above 20 Celsius, and has been Wet and Grey for the last 4 years or so.

Thank You

Bonchi / Lights for Bonchi
syyskuu 28, 2011, 16:17:53 ip
Hi. I hope to bonsai some chili plants this autumn. The one question I have is what type of light I need to get the bonchi to survive the winter. I presume that the Irish Winter will not provide me with enough sunlight. Do I need growlights or will a regular Energy Saving Fluorescent Bulb suffice? I seem to recall seeing one being used in one of Fatalii's pictures. I only need the plant to survive not to provide fruit. Thank you very much for your help.

Hi. I'm just wondering has anybody had any experience with this company?

Also would a bulb like this one be sufficient for bringing some bonchi through the winter, and for starting off some seedlings earlier than usual?

Thanks

Hi. I'm Ronan from Ireland. I don't speak Finnish. I still hope to learn (using Google Translate) from the vast knowledge of chili pepper growing that seems to be present on this forum.
Thanks for having me.
