I was wondering what the different capsicum naming conventions actually mean? What do the CAP*, PI*, C0* etc. stand for?

I first thought it was related to some related varieties, but this doesn't seem to be the case, since the "CAP-series" can be of several different species...

I tried to google for this information, but couldn't find anything useful.  Does anyone have good information about this topic?

Aji Inferno

They're plant classification codes used by various universities and other scientifical institutes. PI is used at USDA, US Department of Agriculture. Other codes I can't remember or simply don't know about... ;)

Herpiili

IIRC
C0* is used at Asian Vegetable Research and Development Center
CGN & PI at USDA.
CAP is used at some dutch place.

Actually CGN is from the netherlands and CAP from germany. :)

...and GRIF is from USDA, too. ;)

I just realized that Brazil also has its own chile classification codes!

It's the BGH, which stands for Banco de Germoplasma de Hortaliças (Vegetables Germplasm Database) :-)

Everyday some more hot knowledge! ;-)
