It definitely helps to be single, with things like these... ;) But then again, if you'd happen to find somebody who understands this stuff, I guess that'd be luck of a lifetime... :)

Did you marry her after or before you filled your livingroom with rare chile plants?

My girlfriend - although she understands and gets along with me and my hobby - would never allow our livingroom to be invaded like that.  :D

I'm also one with an understanding wife--she is not interested in peppers or any kind if gardening

Quite spectacular, John! :)   Well, these things do kind of test people's "limits", and might be a good thing to do before getting married. If your partner starts to scream when seeing all those great fluerescent tubes and plants (not to mention any Natrium lamps...) , chances are that some other trouble might be coming on the road, too... ;-)

Funny, but once when a friend of mine saw a watering hose going through my living room, to my balcony (full of chilis, naturally), she said something like: "it would take quite a special woman to cope with this sight..." 8)

Experience has, indeed, proven that a combination of lots of chili plants in a living room and/or balcony + the rest of the apartment conquered by guitars & other music instruments of various kinds, makes it very easy for one to remain safely single!

I don't have so many wild ones at the moment, just one tepin in cold cellar overwintering experiment and one "wildish" or at least wild-looking 'Quintisho' on kitchen window. So I'll post my inside garden pictures to "päiväkirjat" (diary section of this forum).

Heheheh! First of all, it's nice to see some other English-speaking chileheads participating in this very good Forum! AFAIK, I was the only one before ;-)

Second, very funny to read about everyone's experiences with girlfriends/wives and chile plants :-)

I had quite a lot of problems of my own, but I finally persuaded my girlfriend to accept my plants/lights/water spills inside the apartment, when I promised not to complain about her watching Big Brother on TV anymore! :-D Luckily it's finally over now, and my plants are still standing! But I'm already waiting for the next trade in I'll have to cope with in the near future

And third, it's extremely good news that you (thietavu) are translating the Wild Capsicums page to English! I have tried to get my girlfriend translate parts of it, but you can imagine how "patient" she has been when doing that! LOL

I have been looking for seeds for C. Flexuosom for some time, but I have come up empty.  Does anyone have any extra seeds they would be willing to trade?

I am also looking for C. Eximium and C. Exile.   C. Flexuosom is the one I am most interested in trying.  I believe the seeds are black according to some other chile growers.

I look forward to hearing from you.  I have started most of my plants for the this season, but would love to grow this one to round it off.

Hi Chris

I have some flexuosum seeds but they are yellowish white...I also was told they should be brown. None germinated either but I will be trying them again...I checked the packet and the is an X on it, so I guess that the flex was crossed...so I too would be very interested to get my hands on some true flexuosum seeds...amongst others..LOL.

I have one plant each of Exile and Eximium growing and the Exile is flowering..saw the first baby pods yesterday..so I will keep the first few pods for you, they are not isolated but there are no other flowering plants in with it so they should be true. I do have a couple of pubescens that are about to open flowers and a Lucifers Dream Yellow that has just started producing pods too..but in another batch.

Best of luck with the search

Flexuosum's seeds are black, indeed. I hope to be able to collect some this year from my two plants. It's an easy plant to grow and tends to bloom like crazy, but getting any ripe fruit is a challenge, at least in my conditions. So, I may be able to help you later this year - unfortunately, not just right now... :(

Eximium/cardenasii is another tricky wild capsicum. The semi-domesticated "Rocopica" variety with large (1cm) berries is very easy to grow, and makes fruit without trouble. The wilder forms seem to be quite picky about their growing conditions, and thus I couldn't make a single plant even to bloom last year, no matter what I tried. Some forms are also very, very similar to certain c.praetermissums, making one wonder...

You already know this, but c.exile is a c.chacoense -variety, just under a wrong name. Still, it's a strange, kind of interesting plant. I probably have some old but hopefully still usable seeds left somewhere...

Thietavu,

Thanks for the info concerning the wild capsicums.  I would very much appreciate it if you could save me seed for C. Flexuosom if you are successfully able to get the fruit to ripen on your overwintered plants.

It's not an easy one to find I have discovered, and I would really like to grow it next season.   How many days to maturity is it?

Please, remind me later, after the growing season - if I manage to get any, I'll send you some. It's a very rare capsicum, indeed, although I think there are at least something like 10 plants here in Finland. Most, probably, from one "mother" plant...

As for the time to maturity... Hmmm. Haven't really made many notes about that. The plant itself is rather "normal" in its growing speed. Perhaps a bit on the slower side. I tried one of mine in hydro, too. Wasn't that successful, so that baby's now again growing in peat. The berries aren't as late to ripen as some baccatums are, but they're not ultra-fast either. I have a suspicion (yet unconfirmed) that flexuosums (like some pubescens') might want two different plant parents to really produce good amounts of fruit.
