Hi,
I was wondering... if you breed a really hot chile, like a Bhut Jolokia, with a sweeter one, what would the result be ?
Hot, sweet, or between the two ?

???

Traditional growing / Vs: fastest germination way
syyskuu 01, 2011, 15:07:18 ip

I made those ones :
habaneros brown large (chinense)
bolivian rainbow (annuum)
short tabasco yellow (frutescens)
da neyde (chinense)
bhut jolokia (chinense or frutescens, depending on source )
trinidad scorpion morouga blend (chinense)
cap 1473 (microcarpum/annuum)
tepin eastern travis county. (annuum)

and I think it's a short tabasco yellow that I labelled as a TSMB. so, for the moment, I've got one STY I'm sur of wath it is, and three TSMB but one of them is certainly a STY. is it possible to differentiate a frutescens from a chinense at growing time ?
among the TSMB, only one is already showing it's first "leaves"(I mean its embryonic leaves).
do you think it's this one that could be the STY? they all were sown in the same time, and under the same climatic conditions. could the germination time be "variety dependant"?

thanks

hi guys !

just to give some news.
quite good germination rate in cotton for the moment. on 17 seeds, 13 popped up.

but, as a beginner, I forgot to weel write the names of the varieties on every pot... so I've got 3 trinidad scorpion morouga blend pots when I only made 2 seeds., and I don't know for the moment wich one is the wrong one !  ::)  hope I'll can guess later, at least at flowering or fruiting.

(I'm almost sur I only put 2 seeds of every variety, apart the "surprise chile mix" from whose I only made one)

it makes me crazy for 2 days now...

dont worry, my boxes aren't hermetic enough to prevent air entering, but are closed enough to avoid leakage of moisture, and close enough of the routeur to be at the right temperature.
and I'm just leaving for 2 days, so I'm not very afraid.

thanks

Thanks for your answer InkRose.

Yes, I guess it's probably very similar.
personnaly, I put the seed on a piece of coton, and I add another half coton piece above. the two coton pieces are moistened before ( but not soaked of course). Then I put all this in a little metal or plastic box and I  put this box in a warm place.

I think I've got my answer now... both are ok, but I think I prefer the coton method, just to not wait a long time for a seedling that maybe would never grow.

thanks, I'll can go to my exams without being afraid for my seedlings now.

Traditional growing / Vs: Biobizz concentration.
elokuu 15, 2011, 15:11:14 ip
hello.

personnaly, but it's for other plants, I find that biobizz isn't a very strong fertilizer. I think you can go to minimum 3ml/l without any problem.
but, as it's scribed on http://fatalii.net/growing/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=12&Itemid=26, less is always better than too much.
so, as for my other plants, my advise would be to stat with 1ml/l and you can rise gradually. (0,5ml more each time for example)

for my growing bonchis, I give them 2ml/l about every two weeks (or when you find they looks like needing it). and I don't mesure the EC, when growing in earth, it isn't really important.

but I'm not sure, and I don't really mind, until my chile are ok.

bye

Just be careful with the nitrogen... many beginners fertilize way too much at first and get very nice looking bushy plants and no yield or very small yield.

I'm sure you will do just fine! :)

hi,
thanks for answering.

but , personnally I don't like rockwool cubes... too irritant for me, and I don't like to manage ph.

between the two propositions I did, wich one is the faster one ?

hi everyone.

I'm trying to germinate several varieties on my routeur (for the heat, it's almost perfect, I reach the 27°C almost all day long).
but, I'd like to ask you... what's the best medium for germination between coton and direct in a mix of compost and coconut.

there's a seed (from my "surprise chile mix" I received with my order) growing slowly on the compost, but it took almost a week for getting out of the soil.( I know it's not so long, but I'm quite impatient  ;D )

thank you in advance.

bye

hi everybody.

as I started this topic a long time ago, I wanted to show you the evolution of one of my chile.
it's the one I'd like to make a bonchi from. (without leaving it grow too much, I haven't got the place for it, so I try to keep it small from the begining.
they are now in bigger pots, and seems to like it !

Traditional growing / Vs: chilifocus or biobizz bloom/grow
marraskuu 27, 2010, 15:53:08 ip
hi,

Biobizz works well (and I don't know chilifocus).

does someone know for how long a biogrow bottle is ok?
I've got mine for 3years I think and I wonder if it still ok.

thank you.

Traditional growing / Vs: what type of chile is this?
marraskuu 27, 2010, 15:49:40 ip
hi,

just to say that the habanero I bought in Mexico looked a  little bit like this (but I bought it green and they are only growing for the moment, so I don't know the color of the fruits).

bye.

PS: is there somewhere a thread about the different species of chile? (I mean chinense, baccatum, and other ones)

thank you.

Bonchi / Vs: Growing Instructions - Bonsai Chiles!

hi,

any tip to grow bonchis directly from seeds?

thank you.

hi, thanks for answering.

I think I'll first wait a few days (maybe a week) to let the soil dry.
about nitrogen, I read on the website I mustn't give too much, or the plant will grow faster, and pods could have a strange taste (if I remember well... ther was something about too much nitrogen and pods, I'm sure of it)

if my plant doesn't get better, I'll try giving a little more nitrogen. but first, let see about moisture.

about repoting and cuting roots, could it make problems to the plant?
and what about the leaves (I read to cut them to keep it small??? is it possible?! or did I dream?)

thanks
16
thanks for answering.

I'm not afraid to cut, I used with other plants.

you say it's not dangerous for the plant, but the leaves are falling! isn't it dangerous for the palnt? isn't it a sign that somethin is going wrong?

thanks
17
thank you for answering.

I think they got enought light, they're still under the 125W envirolite, at almost 7cm of the lamp, in général (for other plants I mean) it's OK...

overwatering is a possibility. I'll try to let it dry a little more next time.

I'm quite satified by my fertilyzer, and it's the one that advised fatalii.net.

to post a photo, I must host it on another website so... like imageshack, right? this forum doesn't host photos by itself...

thank you.

if someone else has another opinion, I'll gladly listen to him.

bye

edit: I try posting a photo I put on imageshack, let's see if It works.

http://img264.imageshack.us/img264/3549/101117103519.jpg

wouhou, it works!

so maybe will you also see the youngest leaves are curved on the sides

thank for helping.

Skatchina

PS: my growing space is really small, so I'd like to keep my chiles small directly, make bonchi directly, without let them grow to a bush size... my pots are quite  tight, do I have to do seomthing special? I saw "cutting the leaves to keep it small", but it lokks strange to me... any tip I should know?

thanks again.

hi,

here is my situation:

a few years ago, I went to Mexico and I bought there a pimento. (it was green when I bought it, if my memories are right). I opened it whit a knife and took de seeds out. I left it dying under the sun and took it back home.(after putting my finger in my eye and crying for a moment of course but that's another story)

I germinated some a few months ago and put it in coco peat (NPK 14-15-14 I think), in quite small pots.it grew quite well, under a 125 W envirolite (spectrum adapted for growing) . A week ago, I looked under the pots and saw that the bottom of the pots were full of roots. so I decided to repot them in bigger homemade pots (old 1L milk cartons I washed), still with the same soil.
for a few days now, I find the leaves are quiite light green/yellow and some of them already fell. (to be honnest, I can't remember if the yellow color appeared befor repoting).

I usualy grow other plants than chile and when leaves turn to light green/ yellow, the reason is often either a lack of place for the roots, either a deficiency in N.

I watter my plants twice a week and I gave them biogrow (1mL/L) last monday. I must say my biogrow bottle is 3years old, and I don't know if it's still ok.

Could someone explain me why my plants are turning yellow?

Thank you.

PS: I took a photo but I don't understand how to post it on this forum? must I host it on another website?
