Show us your garden! / My 2008 season

Very nice pictures, Patrik. It looks like you had a good year with lots of varieties. I grew chilhaucle negro a few years ago and had a quite different version. Though they look almost like bell peppers, they had quite thin flesh. The heat was moderate and short lived.

Wild Chiles / C. EXILE seeds for sale

Hi Luigi

An impressive plant. Thanks for sharing the picture. The initials following the name are my sources Seed Savers Exchange codes. A way to keep them straight as the peppers were different from the different sources.

Wild Chiles / Ulupica x eximium?
lokakuu 15, 2008, 23:46:27 ip
Another experiment with inside plants. This doesn't look right to me but it also doesn't look like anything else I growing. ???

First flower

Immature pods and later flowers which were much lighter

Pods maturing

Mature pods--this is the final color as the pods are starting to shrivel

Yes, they are very slow to ripen. I grew a similar one last year that a friend got from a Peruvian market in Milan. I brought the plant inside and it finally ripened--date of picture 11/28

Other growing & lighting / Crosses

I have several pictures of those crosses so rather than try to reconstruct the above I will just show you the end products. These first were crossed by Donnie, not me

Orange Thai x Small Wild Mexican-female parent was Orange Thai but pods are red and extremely hot

Orange Thai x Goat's Weed- again female parent was Orange Thai. Plant showed no pubescence but pods were red and very hot.

Small Wild Mexican x Naga Morich--does not have chinense small or flavor but very hot pendant pods

Small Wild Mexican x Pimenta Morango--again no chinense flavor  but quite hot

Ulupica x pubescen- done by me. The plant looks more like a cardenasii and the pods are smaller than Rocopica but seed are somewhat like Rocopica--only one ripe pod so far.

Ulupica x eximium--still don't know what's going on here--it may be just mislabeled but doesn't resemble anything else I'm growing

I have tried cuttings and this worked most of the time but I prefer plants grown from seed.

Hi Margarida

It has done well. You can see it's picture in February above and here it is last month. As you can see it regained it's former size.

Hi Margarida

Thanks for the heads up. Must have happened when I reorganized my pbase site. Will try to fix when I get a few minutes. Was in Boston for  few days and now even further behind.

Other discussion / HOT PEPPERS!!!
syyskuu 07, 2008, 22:12:17 ip
The Bhut was over wintered inside so had a big head start. My regular plants I start in April and grow under regular fluorescents until I put them outside in mid June. Some don't ripen in time and I bring the plants inside to finish ripening.

Spare bedroom in spring

Hi Lee

I don't take as many plant pictures as I should and have none of those from last year. These are pictures I took this morning

This is an overwintered Bih Jolokia

And Trinidad Scorpion from two sources--both almost a meter high

Hi

What is DHF3? I have grown those you mentioned and they did not seem any more difficult to grow than other peppers.

These are from last year

We are having a cooler than normal summer too and most of my peppers this year are far behind and I expect I will be ripening many inside this fall. I have ripe pods from an over wintered Bih Jolokia
