Hi all,

I'm going to get a few more chile seeds from Brazil soon.  They're not wild varieties (unfortunately, I haven't been able to get any of those... yet!), but I haven't heard about some of them before.  Here's the list of what I'll get:

* Coração de galinha
* Grão-de-bico
* Cumari
* Pimenta-de-bode laranja (orange)
* Murupi vermelha (red, sweet)

Does anyone have some information on these?

I grew One called Bod'e back before I was taking pictures. It was C. chinense 1/2" round went from yellow/green>orange> red. My source indivcated it was from Brazil and also came in yellow

Cumari was also a C. chinense from Brazil--nice compact plant with small roundish yellow pods

Thanks for your answers! :-) I have another "Bode" (means goat in portuguese and normally means that it has a strong scent).  I don't know which colour they are, but the site where I got it from had some pictures of salmon-coloured peppers, that looked really nice.  I'll have to try them to find out.

I'll try the Cumari as well, compact plants are always good for me, since I don't have much space in my balcony and always want to grow way too many different varieties at once!

Does anyone have info on the other varieties? At least I could see in Fatalii's seedlist that he had the "coração-de-galinha" (which means "chicken heart", and the meat version is a brazilian barbeque specialty :-))

That's very interesting. In the Us we have a heirloom pepper called Hinkle Hatz ( Pennsylvania Dutch name) or chicken heart --I wonder if there is a connection.

The plant resembles my Paper Lantern quite a lot (ie. it looks a bit like an umbrella, with most of the leaves on the top), but the fruits are rather different.  The ones on your plant do indeed look like chicken hearts! I'll try them next year, then we can check if they're the same plant.

I will look foreward to seeing your pictures, Luca. I think the history and stories behind the different peppers are very interesting. For instance my source for Cumari got them from an exchange student from Brazil

I've planted a few varieties yesterday and I'll plant the coração-de-galinha and the murupi when I ge them.

Cumari is the name of a small town in the state of Goiás, in Brazil.

As I mentioned before in this forum, next time I go to Brazil I'll have to go around to find different varieties of chiles ;-)
