Thanks, I'll look out for turve then. Be it in the hypermarkets, the pet stores, or the swamp. I think I have to ask my father in law about the last one. ;D

Hi, I need to amend my soil. I've been looking for some peat moss in a few places but haven't been able to find anything. Are there some generic department stores that you know of that sell the stuff?

I'll try in Finnish now...
Minä etsin rahkasammal. Missa helvetti voisinko löydä sen? ;D

Kiiti.

How long have AIRAM been selling these? I've just noticed them in Tokmanni. They are a bit underpowered, and expensive (9e), but they look pretty. Has anyone used these before?

Hydroponic growing / Vs: hose multi adapter

Thanks for your help :)
I'll check out the aquarium shops in Oulu tomorrow, or order from that site if I need to.

Hydroponic growing / hose multi adapter
tammikuu 29, 2014, 00:31:58 ap
Anyone know where I could get hold of one these (hose multi adapter) in Finland? I've tried K-Rauta, Clas-Ohlson, Kärkkäinen, but no luck. A web shop would be fine if there is nothing round the Oulu area.
Thanks.

Has anyone had anything weird (that's all I'm saying) start growing from Aurinko kukkamulta brand soil?

I've started to get my parts for my hydro grow this winter. I have the boxes, clay balls and pump, but I have some questions about the inlet.

In the guide: http://fatalii.net/growing/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=118&Itemid=69
...there is an inlet with a roster net installed http://fatalii.net/ebb/_thru_parts1.jpg
I've just bought an inlet (läpivienti) from K-Rauta, but I was wondering how to install the roster net since the top part of the inlet isn't removable. Did you cut and super-glue your net inside the hole perhaps, or did you buy a inlet which has a removable top?

Thanks.

Just wondering, what are the operating times for the sprinklers here? http://fatalii.net/growing/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=55&Itemid=69
I noticed this is apparently for seedlings, but wouldn't this also work for a plant's complete life cycle (maybe with just 4 pots in that container)?

Hydroponic growing / A few of hydro questions.
toukokuu 03, 2012, 15:26:56 ip
A question from the hydro tutorial:
Why is it important to wash the expanded clay balls before using them?

Is it advisable to clean the water containers after x amount of time? Perhaps there could be a deposit build up or something that the plants don't like.

I was going to grow a rocoto as a long term 'family' plant (for many years). I hear they are more like woody shrubs though. So, would a passive hydro pot like  this be a bad idea? I'm guessing if the roots get big and woody, it will mess with that divider space between the pot and the water.

Thanks for those.
I tried google with siemenet suomi but gave up after a couple of pages of results came up empty.

Hi, Apart from Fatalii, are there any other seed companies based in Finland? I'm after some Micro Tom tomatoes.

Thanks.

Other discussion / Vs: Help identify this bug

Looking at pictures of the Fungus gnats, they seem to go from a white lava to a flyer. Does this mean those crawlers at the bottom of the picture are something else?

Other discussion / Help identify this bug

These have been a nuisance for a while now...

Image: http://dl.dropbox.com/u/228727/publicImages/pests.jpg
(I guess they are the same bug just at different growth stages. The crawlies jump if you poke them.)

I didn't mind them out on the balcony, but now I have my plants inside for the winter, there are loads of the flies around my apartment bugging the **** out of me.
They crawlies seem to like the soil the most. I'm not sure if that leaf pic is their work, but in general the chillie leaves are healthy.

Can anyone identify them?

I've heard diluted Mänty-Saippua sprayed on the plants and soil is good at pest control. Can anyone verify this for chillies?

Thanks.

Copyrighted chillies? *facepalm* Well, if anyone (preferably in Finland) has a few peppadew seeds to spare, maybe a stamp addressed envelope and a 5 euro note will tickle someone's stigma?

Came across this baccatum just now. It seems to have a pretty big following (probably a lot of hype though), so I would like to have a go at growing it sometime...

I couldn't find it on fatalii. Could it go by some other name perhaps?

Traditional growing / To fork or not to fork?
kesäkuu 29, 2011, 20:40:00 ip
I was watching this video (link below) and noticed this guy recommended cutting below the first branch fork for indoor pepper plants. Even though these where pepper plants, is this approach recommended for indoor chilli growers or does it depend on the chilli species? Will cutting this early possibly stress a particular species too much and kill it?

Traditional growing / How many plants per pot?
kesäkuu 21, 2011, 17:53:45 ip

Going by this image, it looks like there are 2 very close plants in this pot, or the plant was pinched very low. If this is 2 plants, do you recommend growing more than one per pot or does it depend on the species?

Traditional growing / Vs: Deep pots or wide pots?

Lainaus käyttäjältä: Fatalii - joulukuu 17, 2009, 13:31:10 ip
Basically, I've learned that with soil based growing deep pots are good. With hydroponics, it really doesn't seem to matter where the roots will grow.

Also, the plants can do pretty nively in a very shallow but wider bonchi pots.

So to put it simple, for soil if you aim for a big yields, use deeper pots.
And for ornamental growing / growing just for fun, use small shallow pots to ensure there will be no overwatering.

For hydroponics, everything is just fine. :)
Would you say that the Finnish 1 litre milk cartons are a good example of a deep pot, or would they be too narrow?

I think chilli plants won't survive the winter even in the southern Finland!
Wait, when I say survive, I mean like overwinter (recover from hibernation). Sorry for my noobness.
