Been looking at your bonchi pictures and i notice that alot of them have several thick branches/stems growing from the bottom of the main stem. Do you cut the main stem early on to force the branching out from the bottom or how do you do it ???

Actually no, most popular way to make thick bonchi is to let it grow for a one meter tall, or so, and then cut it down. The branches will pop out themselves. Picture above will open the idea, it's a palm, but the way of making it is the same! :)
