HI!
I built a low cost green house for the germinating and growing.
So, there are few light in my flat so i need artifical light. The main viewpoint was a safety. I work all day so i afraid of the "lone" things.. (High temperature, fire etc ..)
Therefore HPS lamps are excluded. I chose by cfl-s, and glass.
I had eaves channel, cables, AC/DC converter , fans, ceramic blub socekts at home..
So i got an aquarium with a little crack on online auctions.
I made a lamp with CFL-s . (4x23W 6500K.)
I used mylar for the bettter light utilization.

A made a mistake i think... Early fertirilzing.. First, i gave them in a half dose, than after 1 week in a normal dose.. I washed the soil carefully before 4 days..
Do you have any idea, what do i have to do?

Thanks, i see. The yellowness is scary and they dont grow for 2 weeks. There are the new leafs but dont gorw.
I think the lower leaves aren't getting enough light. If you can, try to adjust the lamp so it is closer to the plants(10-15cm).

The distance between upper leafs and blubs is 20cm. I'll try reduce the distance.

Oh, not so far away then. Keep an eye on the plants as they grow, otherwise the upper leaves may get "sunburnt" when they reach the light.
I got a tip: Overwatering maybe. The plants got a water twice a week. I'll reduce only one and hope.
After a week. They haven't got any water for a week. I'm going to watering today.

We met every day in summertime when i watered thujas.. i had to rescue lizards. I don't know why love they the draintubes.

Hi neighbor! :)
Never give up. :) If you grow up your plants indoor you have to give a lot of light. (for example by CFL).
Soil: Roots like loose soil. So, in my case i used a premixed medium. Soil + coil + perlit and i added a many clay balls -handful / pot -.
This things will be mixed by my hand in the next year. This solution is cheaper than premixed.
Good to know, I made a similar mix, perlite with clay balls, orchid mix for the fir bark, and some regular peat, seemed to be happy until I messed with the roots. New seeds on the way though so we'll see what happens.
Hmm, the ph of orchid soil is lower than optimum. (orchid: 4,8 - 5,5 , optimum in pepper case: 6-6,5). But, just my idea, and the ph is change.

PH is a little bit hard topic. If you have a hydro system you would be easy to do. (You can buy ph upper and lower liquids in the grow shops.) Soil is different. Maybe, with added wood ash and whitewash but i have never tried before. Look around in the soil topics.

Yes I'm :) I have never thought this quantity. But the weather was horrible in last two weeks with lot of rain and wind. Many pods are rotting but not too bad. Just 2-3 really hot weeks (>30°C) were in Hungary in this summer. So i'm satisfied.

Not really but enough. cca. 250-300 nm2 and it's shared garden with my neighbors. (I live in a newly built block of flats).
I think it's a good place for chilis too.

End of season. Yesterday i killed my plants ( :'( ), because the weather is very bad and it's will be worse.. but i try overwintering many plants (5) and i made 3 bonchi.. :)
This year was very instructive and i learned a lot. 30 plants are so much for me :) So i'm waiting for the next season with more variety.

I have no idea. I put seeds, watered them and put them over a fireplace. Maybe they didn't enjoy the heat... ::)
Oh well, I'd better stay cool next time.
Fatalii seeds are a big disappointment in this year.. :'( c.chinese seeds are dead but not just for me my friends are complain too. The germination ratio worse than 30% and after the successful germination the seedling is very weak or necrose.. :(

No, when the seeds arrived there was many seeds broken. (half of all carolina seeds..) I tought the hungarian postoffice was too rough but no. I talked about this with other guys and there are similar experiences. (broken seeds and bad germination..)

Well, here in Finland we have this shreder called Posti (Finnish postal service provider) known notorious within chilihead circles here... No hope with Rocoto seeds, but usually other seeds gets through more or less fine...
For germination can't say where the broblem is.

Totally chaos in the box :D I gave them some fertilizer. Yara ferticare starter (15-30-15) and 24-8-16. I think its works well.

Wow! You sure do have the climate to grow chilies outside! Here in Finland the summer has been so cold that all my Chinenses have grown blueberry-sized "pods". :o Looking tasty!

I would like to have been in Finland in this summer because in hungary was extremly hot.. 32-38°C for weeks.. i have had to watered 2 times/day. (If the weather is normal (25-30°C) i use to sprinkle once/2 day... )

And I know what you mean by the weather, it's been crazy hot here as well, same temps.

Man, I wish I got that kind of amount of harvest from my wind-beaten bushes. Summer has been too cold for a proper amount of chilis.

I've got an IKEA shelf of my balcony with construction plastic over it :D Very ugly, but somewhat works now that I've bought a small heater for it.
