I have seen some pictures of gardener in irc-gallery also....
(tai jtn tuonne päin...sorry my english isn't so good)
Actually, those aren't the first pictures of me on my site.
Shame on you, you haven't been checking the updates! :D
Or maybe I just update too often. ;)
I noticed you keep the "water ring" quite elevated in the hydrofarm; does it help with circulation or something? I also have experienced quite a constant need to clean the holes in the ring; any tips to help keep it clean? I do use ATAclean in the solution, have you tried it?
Yes, seems to work better that way when using air pump with two outputs.
I've used ataclean and it worked well but with water from the watering well, I won't need it anymore. :)
Some new pics:

Small update again:

You seem to use different growing media than usually in that ebb & flood -system. Is that just normal small grain size broken stone?
It's somekind vulcanic stuff, at least it looks great, I'll know more later...
Smalle progress in the greenhouse today:
http://juuri.org/fatalii/?u=g&c=new&d=2006-04-26
Cool, dude! Nice new systems you're putting up in your greenhouse :D
Two new updates, here's the latest:
http://juuri.org/fatalii/?u=g&c=new&d=2006-04-29
That cellular monitoring software is probably the high-techest and coolest thing related to growing I`ve ever seen!! :D
BTW,have you bought a new close-up lense or something? Those close-up pics are great!
Nike, I bought a new camera and lenses as you can se on earlier updates, still learning to use them.. :)
I've been using that software for ~1 year now and it works great!
Been busy:

More stuff:
http://juuri.org/fatalii/?u=g&c=new&d=2006-05-05
What's wrong with your waterfarm locato? (http://juuri.org/fatalii/?u=g&c=new&d=2006-05-02&id=3866) In two months the growth rate has been very poor (comparison (http://juuri.org/fatalii/?u=g&c=new&d=2006-03-01&id=3710)) Do cuttings grow as fast as seedlings anyway?
Funny that you mention it... I just took some pics of it... I will make a full update soon, but before that, compare here:
2.5.06

8.5.06
http://koti.mbnet.fi/jkilpi/locato_080506.jpg
The start took very long, for a few reasons:
shock from transfering, and hardening-off in the cold cellar.
Same thing with Grif 9345 last year.
Once it starts to grow.. it grows at amazing speed!
So, it's better to start early enough so the plants can enjoy the whole sunny season!
Yes, cold cellar might be the explanation. :)
Btw. do you think hardening off is worth it? Because I think that if you had kept the plant warm enough the size might be now quadruple of what it is now.
Moving plants as early as possible into the greenhouse hardening-off is quite necessary to prevent the plants from dying to extremely cold nights.
Movin plants from indoors (20+) to greenhouse and cold night ~5 degrees can be lethal (or even more stunning) for non-hardened-off plants.
And new update here:

Cold side of the greenhouse in use!

Hmmm... My babies (2xannuum, 2xchinense, 2xpubescens) have spent now 3 nights outside with night temperatures around 5 degrees and are doing just fine and even growing during daytimes. This is of course without hardening. Maybe I've been little lucky with my varietes being cold tolerant. :?
Yes but most often you get the best results with hardening-off.
Shocks are always bad for chiles.
Most of my plants didn't even notice the transfer because they were transferred first to cellar where the temperature was dropped little by little after every few days.
Works much better than before when I just tossed the plants from indoors into the cold greenhouse.
With lace cloths it't much easier to harden-off the plants for both, for the sun and for the cool nights.

No, pitäähän niillä tyhmilläkin lapsilla olla lapselliset harrastukset. Oppisivat vielä kirjoittamaan englantiakin, kun konekieletkin hallitsevat..

The site must have been hacked between 02:45-04:30. This really sucks - but I assume, that backups are available and the site will return to normal very shortly.
Well, even the stupid kids need hobbies. They should be able to learn proper English as well, since they already know computer languages and are proven to have the ability to learn..

Niin.. kuten tuolla aiheen omassa ketjussakin jo kerroin(siellä suomenkielisellä vapaa sana puolella, täällähän pitäisi vissiin puhua sitä engelskaa), niin mitenkään tyhmää tekoa vähättelemättä, kuitenkin taisi olla pieni hyöty tuosta tempusta.. ainakin sitten osaa sulkea tietoturva-aukot.

Nice! :D
Can I request pics? I would like to see one from your hydro galapagoense and one from ornamental chiles you planted outside, please. 8)
Hmm... killed my hydro galapagoense when I was having a small vacation... I can post pics of the ornamentals althought there are dumb empty spots there... it's still very pretty!
I will try it again next year.
You lost some hair, man.... !!!
Sometimes it happens when you get older ;)
Yes, your head is definitely lighter now... and you don't look like a hippie anymore
Anyway, nice new pics! Your Neyde is very nice looking! Are you convinced that it doesn't change colour yet? ;)
I must admit that I am.... took some softened pod off and tried to after-ripen them after.... nothing, they still look like immature inside!
I'm sure those seeds would still be viable.

Definitely a typical ornamental annuum.

Hi Fatali
I grew CAP 1546 , which I received from the seed bank as C. eximium. As you say it is really an annuum. I got different flowers than you did, though the pods look the same.

Bonsai chile article:

Snu: The large ebbs won't be wide this time so there's quite small water reservoirs compared to size of the ebbs.
Evaporation in the greenhouse is minimal because of the very high humidity,
And there will be sprinklers watering the ebbs whenever it's too hot.
F1 has been very prolific + it's stable (from cutting).
It would be quite risky to germinate new generation and grow it in ebb without knowing if it's prolific or not.

how many chilli plants can you grow in there ?!!
Hmm.. don't know the exact amounts but I think it would be theoritically possible to grow thousands and thousands of plants as there are several rooms..
500 plants uses only a small portion of the greenhouse.
More pics on the updates above.
And many more to come, updates will be announced first at fatalii.net front page.

This autumn there will be Aji Cristals for sale in the best markets in Finland!
If it's all successful, there will be Rocotos and other suberb varieties available fresh in markets next year!

Truly a great thing - Fatalii has changed the chili culture here in Finland for many years to come... I never thought I would see the day when a really strong sauce like Pain 100% is available in a local supermarket - but it seems that we Finns have finally acquired spicy taste! And I think, a lot of that change started in Fatalii's backyard's self-made greenhouse! :)
Well... without Tommi, this probably wouldn't have happened! :)
