Otsikko: Create your own chile jungle from one small Bonchi Motherplant
Kirjoitti: Fatalii - toukokuu 19, 2009, 13:31:26 ip
I found this method very practical if you are low on space and because of several other reasons too.
I wanted to share, hope someone enjoys this stuff as much as I do:

Have fun with your own projects and remember to post them too!

Glad to hear, that kind of projects have been fun, it's very simple, quick and interesting to start new plants like that and at the same time, prune your bonchis to look much better.

I think not turning plants after the season will be serious wasting of plants!! :)
It's like growing them and throwing them away just before they start to produce fruit!

I'm actually still germinating new vars just for bonchi purposes as they will be interesting to grow during next winter, something new to taste also!
And as I've seen.. those bonchis will be the first ones to produce fruit the next season as they are mature plants + they have a thick stem, good roots and strong foliage.. just what seedlings would need for a decent head-start!! :)

Yes, you can actually use any chiles.

Some varieties are just clearly better because of the properties like overall tougness, thick stems, small pods, small leaves etc... it depends what you want from your bonchi.

I have bad experiences about basic annuum types, like jalapeno, cayenne-types, bell pepper etc. But ornamental (Like Bolivian Rainbow for example) and wild type (Like tepins) annuums work very nicely. Baccatums, chinenses, frtescens and pubescens seem to work generally very well. I'd say that C. pubescens is very easy when grown as bonchi, I even got some fruits from a bonchi C. pubescens!

My personal favorites are wild species as bonchi plants... there's just something so special about them.

What about annuum like Hungarian Hot Cherry, I have one plant now and maybe this one goes to bonchi next winter ? :)

Well, it's a typical annuum that isn't very strong against huge stress.... drops leaves easily and has a lousy tolerance against pests.

It's possible but I wouldn't recommend it, especially if you want your bonchi to become an old plant. :)

Ok, I forget Hungarian.

What you think about 7 Pod or Turpo Pube (maybe too big pods) for Bonchi.

Actually, turbo pube is the one that is producing pods as bonchi!

Just don't expect to get large yields for them :)

Both can be turned into very nice bonchis.
