Tervehdys, kaksi samaan aikaan sattunutta teknistä muutosta / ongelmaa summa aiheutti vajaan viikon katkon foorumille. Nyt palvelinohjelmisto on jouduttu päivittämään uuteen ja sekä ulkoasu että toiminnallisuus on muuttunut. Toivotttavasti ei ainakaan kovin paljoa huonompaan suuntaan. Well, the second week of June I finally got the peppers potted up outside. Here are some of them on the back deck

We are still having cool weather --highs in the 60's and 70's and lows in the 40's and 50's so nothing is doing much at this point. Hoping for warmer weather

Hi Mark

I know you too are concerned to get at least some order in this chile naming business. I have a suggestion regarding seed bank varieties. To me it would be less confusing if the chiles were listed by their accession numbers and then, if they have one, a common name. For instance PI 152217 AKA Aji Amarillo is clearer, to me, than Aji Amarillo ( PI 152217),  as there are Aji Amarillos which are not USDA peppers. This would hold true for the other seed bank accessions also. Just my 2 cents.

Continues to grow and I'm just now working it outside. Curious how big it will get. Now 45" tall, not counting the pot.

Thanks, Luca

For this year I started all peppers that I have not grown before except for some sweets that I really liked and Seven Pod to compare to the super hots everyone seems to be growing. And of course, I have the overwintered and winter starts which are not new.

This last batch are those started in October and November to do some crossing experiments with. That never happened because of battles with mites and then aphids. As you can see, some did better than others, having large pods, and some are struggling to survive. I expect they will all perk up once outside because I never have insect problems on my outside plants.

Wild Chiles / C. praetermissum (aka. Cumari)
toukokuu 28, 2007, 16:58:41 ip
Well, you are right about the massive confusion of chile names which is why I try to be as precise as possible so as to not add to the confusion. I have 10 C. praetermissum from various seed banks and 1 from Mats and 5 baccatum var. praetermissum ( a whole other debate). At least they all have number designations.

So, any C. praetermisssum is 'Cumari' ? That doesn't seem a very useful term--like calling all baccatums "Aji"

I have a Cumari that came from a Brazilian exchange student. It is a chinense. Described as having a "smoky tropical fruit flavor"- it is a favorite of several friends.

Hi Michael

Your Tasmanian is a mystery--3 different pod types and they look like annuums? Be curious to see how things develop.

As for viruses-sometimes they can be interesting. Here is a Thai Variegated that a horticulturist friend thinks is the result of a virus.

Also was talking to the nursery guy yesterday about my tarragon dying and he said some of the problems with that plant were that it was infected with a virus and people were trying to eliminate it but were afraid it might not taste the same.

Wild Chiles / CGN-19198
toukokuu 26, 2007, 02:10:30 ap
i have not noticed any leaf drop but the spidery growth habit does remind me of cardenasii.
133
The Datils almost look like they have a virus or something --seems something other than nutrient deficiency. Here is a picture of my Datil--as you can see the leaves are a bit crinkly but not as distorted as yours.

I'm growing Tasmanian Habanero and will let you see what I get.

Wild Chiles / CGN-19198
toukokuu 23, 2007, 23:03:52 ip
Hi Chris

I have a glassed in "dining" area ( we never eat there because it is always full of plants) where I keep my overwintered plants. The CGN 19198 was started from seed last November and raised under fluorescents until it was pretty good sized and then moved to the window. For most of the winter ( because of our very short days) the plants just survive and then start growing as the days get longer. In this picture from last year you can see that I even supplemented the back row with fluorescents. Also, all of those I try to overwinter don't survive.

I don't see any "tri-flowers' . It is ,however, blooming profusely with multiple flowers per node.

Hi Fatali

I grew CAP 1546 , which I received from the seed bank as C. eximium. As you say it is really an annuum. I got different flowers than you did, though the pods look the same.
