Uutiset:

Tervehdys, kaksi samaan aikaan sattunutta teknistä muutosta / ongelmaa summa aiheutti vajaan viikon katkon foorumille. Nyt palvelinohjelmisto on jouduttu päivittämään uuteen ja sekä ulkoasu että toiminnallisuus on muuttunut. Toivotttavasti ei ainakaan kovin paljoa huonompaan suuntaan. Odottamattomia ongelmiakin saattaa ilmaantua.

Interesting pepper

Got this from a German pod pal. Reports it is a cross of C. baccatum and C. exile. Pods are deciduous and have medium heat. Took awhile to get ripe pods as something kept eating them as they ripened ( have not had this problem with any other hot varieties) and I finally brought it inside.

thanks for sharing John

the pods is a rich orange colour when ripe?

and just wondering, do the little spikes on the stem collar indicate exime traits?

John,

I had that pod-eating problem too, though with an annuum. I guess some aphids can be angrier than I thought. Atleast I found some aphids attached to the pod.

Does, indeed, look like what I've thought a c.chacoense x c.baccatum crossing might look like... Cool! How's the taste of the fruit? Usable for cooking?

JohnF

The taste is a little odd reminds me of a chinense somewhat--but doesn't really taste like one.. Probably only good for cooking as the flesh is thin and quite soft.

Michael

That does seem to be a characteristic of exile/chacoense but I'm not sure  it's limited to that species.

Sounds kind of promising for drying at least... Always wondered what a chacoense x Lemon Drop would produce! :)

For those interested. I checked with my source and found that the male parent was Cobincho and the female Criolla Sella.

Oh, familiar varieties... :)  Criolla Sella is one of the nicest baccatums I've found - a half-sweet, medium-hot type. Well, this may lead into interesting things... For example, PI-260460, Lemon Drop and Aji Amarillo might produce something quite special when married with chacos!
