Thx!
We have only few polish varietes, 3 I think  :-\ (Cyklon, Tajfun, Bronowicka Ostra), so it's high time to create something new.
Chilis are just starting to be popular here, so maybe it's MY TIME :)

Jah

Hi!
My friend received some seeds from Poland. They became tiny pretty plants looking very similar to Nosegay/Holiday cheer but with elongated conical fruits. I do not have pic of ripe fruit, but it has a carrot-like color. And shape can be seen on pics here http://spice-blog.ru/gallery2/main.php?g2_itemId=597
Do you know what var it is?

Jah

The plant is similar, not the fruits :) It's 15 cm tall same as Nosegay. Not 18 to 24 inches :D

haha, sorry, we haven't understood  ;D

So I'll try one more time.
On our polish forum one guy uploaded few photos of small chili he's growing successfully year after year.
It's small, looking ornamental but he claims that pods taste great and are pretty hot.
But he wrote a question about it's variety, becouse he just didn't know.
There's a few examples, and I think this time I won't miss :)

Here's the link:

Oh, he has a generic ornamental variety from Holland. It's really good, and it can be red and yellow. I have such plants too (it's yellow var http://spice-blog.ru/gallery2/main.php?g2_itemId=611 :) )
But it's absolutely different var :)

I don't know what's happening with some of my Cayennes and Cyklons.
I've changed fertilizer, from strong concentrated Polish one to Chili Focus maybe 2 weeks ago.
And now few bottom leafs and several buds turned light green, almost yellow. Few buds even fell off.
Today I've found Cayennes with hunging/pendant leafs.

Tell You what. When changed fertilizer, I've also changed the way of watering. Eariler I'd watered them from the bottom, pouring water on trays under pots. Now I pour water from the top of the pot. Maybe I'm overwatering now?!

Or maybe have to use Chili Focus more often, than 2 times a week, or maybe less water?
Now I'm using 1,5-2L(+7,5ml of CHili Focus on 1L) of water on 20 plants.

BTW: I'd like to underline that only Cayennes and Cyklons have the problem, other vars. are stiff with nice green big leafs.

Jah

If we see some photos of ill leaves and whole plants, we would be able to say something. That can happen for different reasons, f.e. too low nitrogen, overwatering, low light, but also because of roots rot or burn. And even heat may cause that.

Photos are poor quality, becouse my camera is a trash.
Today I'll take her digital and catch better pictures.

More yellow leafs than on others

Cayenne looking poor

Normal Hot Wax, and dark green Habanero Orange

Sorry for this photocrap, but without flash it would be shaken.

Heat and burn - no, for sure, It's still raining for 4-5 days in Warsaw
temperature indoors is still the same.
Low light? hmm, maybe. There's almost no sun now.
But I'm betting on overwatering or lack of nitrogen.
What You think?

Chilli Focus is unfortunately a very poor fertilizer..Used it myself and found it hopeless..Unlike some of the Ionic products used in hydro,Or Clonex C.Focus is definitely there worst product myself and number of people have found your better without it.

Jah

Looks wrong soil pH for me... Maybe it's the fertilizer, maybe overwatering. Start from check pH and definitely change your fertilizer since this one won't work :) Try to let the soil dry well until leaves shrivel and hang, than water with about a half of maximally possible amount. Then wait again until the soil dry out and water again. Repeat 3-4 times. That will let normalize pH if the soil became too acid because of overwatering.
I noticed that various varieties can do different ways in bad soil. Chinenses mostly keep their pretty leaves color even in too acid and poor soil. And cayennes loose foliage quickly in such soil. My mistake was to add some wooden sawdusts to ground. It was acid and poor of nitrogen.
Btw, ain't that coconut peat? My plants did not love it too. For same reasons I guess.

It's very strange for me. Since I've started to use Chili Focus plants are massivele producing new foliage, flowers are blooming, and pods are growing faster. Also little seedings made 2nd pair of true leafs in just few days.
But on the other side those turning pale leafs......maybe Jah's right and it's really all about soil pH. Besides of overwatering(this is for sure) Cayennes and Cyklons have problems with nitrogen absorption.
On Tuesday I'll measure soil pH at my university, unfortunately can't do it earlier.

BTW: Lee's using Chili Focus and deals supergreat.

talas

Yes looking at your pictures of your soil/Coir the coir is very strange looks like way to much coir in there should only be about 20% coir with a combination of peat and loam and whatever else you add to your mix  :o

Pavlak

I've got a mix of soil and peat, and it's written it's good for seedeings and repotting.
This coir on the top in onlu on upper 2cms, just to fulfill pots.

I'm considering repotting plants to larger containers, and it's associated with new soil of course, but I don't have time :(.
I'm trying to write my Master's Thesis, and want to finish it in 2 weeks. So chiles have to wait  :-X

Then its more obvious that those 2 specific plants have some kinda problem. Don't think its the focus

Adding photos of few pods.
Cyklon pods are 3,5-4 inches and nicely red when matured, if anyone would ask :)

Crosses are doing very well  8)

Jalapeno Purple, can't wait to slice them on pizza

Pavlak

I'm still waiting Cyklons to ripen. Their pods are getting bigger and bigger, most of them are over 10cm long and 3-4cm diameter on the top, but no signs of red colour here :) I can't wait to try them.

One question to jalapeno growers: how big exactly are mature pods of jalapeno purple? I know they're a bit smaller but......there's some discrepancy in sizes.

talas

Jala Purple about 3-5 Inches had a few smaller nice pods and very tasty,Looking forward to hearing about the taste of your Cyklon and crosses  :)

Pavlak

Now, I'm waiting for some Habanero Orange flower buds to cross it with Cyklons.
