Here's the latest cross I'm trying to achieve:

I will redo it until it takes!
The most complicated thing was actually making the label and I have it done already so...

What are you trying to achieve with it?

Fatalii

My plan is to get a very compact and tasty kitchen plant, mainly foor bonchi purposes of course.

Both the parents are great for bonchi purposes and BEB has very small leaves.

Cristal tastes GREAT and BEB is okay for ornamental chile so I hope I get the best qualities from both...

I'm going to make a few crossing projects this year, I have some plans for that already.

Even some science stuff coming too, I actually found a plant that tolerates cold even better than C. flexuosum!
More about that on the next fatalii.net update!

Don't play with fire, but play with Wild Chilli's

Fatalii

Yeah, it's still hanging there... about 50-50% chance for it to work.

If it doesn't, I will try again, until it works. :)

Oh and... any suggestions for crosses would be nice, and some explanation for that choice too! :)
Keep in mind that it's possible to make a cross of two vars, and later cross it with even another var, meaning it will be a cross of 3 different vars... The possibilities are limitless!

Been working on a number of crosses, over a considerable period of time and some have done well, I stabilized My
Chocolate Habanero x Bhutt Jolokia(Habolokia) last year and getting some good feed back from the growers using it in there 2009 grow`s..the reason for this was just purely fun and where to variety's that where favorites so it seemed a good choice,i used isolated variety's s of each pepper..From 3 differnt sources and all, where successful to a degree. We choose the variety for the second grow from a combination of yield/Flavor/And cold tolerance attributes and of course test germination of seed.
This year we have about 30 crossing projects going between originally 3 people,That has now increased to 6,the main aim is to produce many cold tolerant variety's including tomatoes to and pass them to other Northern country's and also the Carib,Middle east and North/south America to see how people get on with growing there.
Fatallis Dutch hab is A most  commendable addition and one growers im sure will enjoy growing. Will add some pictures soon of 2009 crosses  :)

Well, already told you this on IRC, but i tried crossing bell pepper with aji cristal, two attempts, of which i hope that at least one will take. if they don't take i do it over and over again until it takes. :)

Okay, pics for the results!

This isn't actual result, but the cross took, which means I will see the results of the cross after germinating seeds inside this pod.

Now I'm planning to cross dutch habanero with Aji Cristal and/or Champion... :)

I have a crossing project (more about it later), and I was wondering if all the seeds from one pod are the same. Is there any point in sowing another F1 seed from the same pod, if the firstone didn't produce a tasty plant?

Fatalii

At that point, every single seed will produce different results.

Ok. But I still will keep the seeds from different pods separate, because I can't be 100% sure the plant hasn't self pollinated some pods.

Now more about my crossing project...

I have tried to cross Aji Cristal (red, elongated, medium hot bushy baccatum) and Aji Dulce Amarillo (yellow, roundish, almost heatless chinense with strong chinense aroma and tree-like growing habit). For some reason I haven't been able to impregnate any Aji Cristal flowers with Aji Dulce Amarillo pollen, maybe because there is not so much pollen in chinenses. Luckily I have managed to do it the other way around, and I have 10 Aji Dulce Amarillo pods with Aji Cristal pollen already grown to full size. According to the table on Fatalii's pages, crossing baccatum and chinense should not be a problem, but I remember Aji Inferno saying it is difficult and very rare in nature. One reason for choosing these varieties was the many differencies between them: growing habit of the plant, heat, size, shape, color and taste of the pods. The other reason is obvious: I like them both and hope to grow something completely different but atleast equally good as the parents.

I have now 10 pods waiting to ripen. Aji Dulce usually doesn't have many seeds, but if they are all different, I have a lot to grow!

For now there is nothing special to see, but I will try to remember to post some pictures here, as soon as I get the F1 generation growing.

The hardest part is to get those seeds to germinate.

Many species can pollinate other species succesfully but the seeds won't produce any plants.

I had a lot of difficulties germinating Dutch & Habanero cross seeds approximately 7 years ago.
But gladly, few seeds germinated and the better one is still around!

Crossing different species and even different chiles from the same species is always interesting. I've been working on a C. chinense x C. frutescens cross for two years now, and the results never cease to amaze me.

As of now working on 16 different projects, where 14 of the those are new crosses. it's hard work, but fun work.

Great news guys, my both Aji cristal - bell pepper hybrids seem to have taken. Can't wait to get the seeds  ;D
